Why I Don’t Like “Thanks in Advance”

Thanks in advance” sounds polite, right?

But honestly, I don’t like it.

It’s like someone saying, “I know you’re going to do this for me, so I’ll just say thank you now.
Wait—did I even say yes?

It’s a little pushy in a polite outfit.

Of course, most people don’t mean to be rude. We say it without thinking. I used to say it too.

But now, I try something different. I might say,
Would this be okay for you?
Or,
If you have time, I’d really appreciate your help.”

And then—if someone helps me—I say a real, honest “Thank you.”

Not before.
Not just in case.
Not to guilt anyone into doing something.

So if you ever get a message from me, don’t worry.

No “thanks in advance.

Just thanks—when it’s truly needed.
