This one 2-minute skill can change how people see you in English

Most people think small talk is “wasting time”.
It isn’t. It’s one of the simplest ways to feel safe and connected in English.

It’s not about the weather.
When someone asks, “How was your weekend?”, they don’t want the details. They just want to see if you’re open and friendly.

It helps you belong.
A little small talk shows you understand the social rules. You look approachable, not cold.

It builds trust.
Before people share anything important, they need to feel comfortable. Small talk is the quick test.

It reduces stress.
A short, easy exchange relaxes everyone before the “serious” part begins.

👉 Think of it as a social seatbelt.
You don’t always notice it , but it keeps you safe.

So don’t dismiss it.
Practise a few openers (“How’s your week going?” / “Busy day for you?”) and notice how doors open.

💬 Try this today: ask one small question in English… not to practise words, but to build connection.
