Sssh! Don’t Say This Letter

I thought you might like to be reminded that the b in the following words are silent. This means that we don’t pronounce them.

bomb (Bombe)
climb (klettern)
comb (Kamm)
crumb (Krümel)
debt (Schuld/Schulden)
doubt (Zweifel)
dumb (dumm)
lamb (Lamm)
limb (Gliedmaß)
numb (taub)
thumb (Daumen)
tomb (Grabstätte)
womb (Mutterleib, Schoß)

Say each word out loud. Can’t hear the b? Perfect!

A Great Way to Get Ready for the Big Day

A Great Way to Get Ready for the Big Day

‘Twas the night before Christmas is a well-known poem first published anonymously in 1823—and later attributed to Clement Clarke Moore, who claimed authorship in 1837.

Isn’t it the perfect poem to read or to listen to on Christmas Eve, in preparation of the big day tomorrow?

I suggest you listen to this very special reading here. You’re sure to recognise a few faces!

Enjoy!

And let go of the stress from shopping around for presents. Try to forget your backache from decorating the home with Christmas lights. And don’t worry too much about the pounds you’ve gained from eating all that yummy Christmas food.  It’s time to get together with family and friends (I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you can), and to have a Merry Christmas. 🎄🎅🤶🦌

The Media Coach, Alan Stevens, has some wonderful ideas on how to make someone happy this Christmas—with a social media gift.

I thought you might like to copy one or two of these ideas, too.

We can:

  • mention someone who had a great idea
  • thank someone
  • link to a great article
  • re-tweet a useful message
  • encourage others to visit someone’s site
  • suggest people to “follow” or “friend”
  • keep in touch with old friends
  • comment on an article, photograph or video.
So what are you going to do now?

A Musical Time Machine

Christmas will soon be upon us. And there’s nothing like some good music to get us in the mood.

Let’s celebrate with Radiooooo.com‘s musical time machine.

Just choose the decade, the country and slow, fast or weird—and sit back and relax while listening to all kinds of music from all over the world.

Need Some Last-Minute Christmas Wishes?

It’s better not to try and translate your Christmas wishes from German into English. Write your text directly in English. It will sound a lot better.

Perhaps some of my ideas can inspire you?

  • We wish you a merry Christmas and all the best for the coming year.
  • Christmas greetings and all good wishes for your health and happiness in the coming year.
  • During this season of giving, let us take time to slow down and to enjoy the simple things in life. Wishing you a very special Christmas.
  • Best wishes to you and your family during this holiday season.
  • The gift of love, peace and happiness. May all these be yours at Christmas.
  • It’s the time of eggnog, candles, cakes, songs, reindeer, carols, laughter—and most importantly LOVE. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
  • May your home be filled with Christmas songs, cakes, chocolate and all the love that this festive season brings.
  • The spirit of Christmas should not be just for one day but for the whole year! Have a wonderful Christmas.
  • Wishing you love, joy and peace the whole year round. Merry Christmas.

And, of course, you can always ask Google for more ideas.

Do you also find this chandelier very kitschy?

According to urbandictionary.com kitsch is ‘melodramatic, overdone, gaudy and tacky or sentimental and folksy’.

We can’t find a better word in English so we use the German! Now isn’t that uber cool?

Just type the word ‘kitsch’ into Google and press on ‘images’, and you’ll find lots and lots of kitschy pictures!

Of course, what you find kitschy, I might even like! 😉
