In a workshop not long ago, one of my participants spoke about the “chairman”. Of course, if it’s a man, it’s okay to use the word. And if it’s a woman, you would call her the “chairwoman”. If you don’t know whether the person is male or female, it might be better to use “chairperson” or just “chair”, although I don’t really like calling someone the “chair”!
