Advice, Not Advices — Sparks Plus, Week 7
Welcome to this week’s Sparks Plus — your quick, practical boost for clearer, more confident English.
Five short sections, all easy to read and use right away.
1️⃣ Quick Win
Don’t add an “s” to advice.
❌ He gave me good advices.
✔ He gave me good advice.
Like information, advice is uncountable.
You can say:
✔ a piece of advice
✔ some advice
2️⃣ Real-World English in Action
Denglish rescue:
A client wrote: We see us next week.
In English, we simply say:
✔ See you next week.
We don’t use “see” reflexively.
3️⃣ Christine’s Pick
BBC Learning English – The English We Speak
Short audio episodes (3 minutes each) that explain the latest phrase or expression in clear, slow English.
Great if you love learning idioms (as I know some of you do!).
4️⃣ Reader Question
Q: Can I say I look forward to see you?
A: Not quite. After look forward to, use the -ing form.
✔ I look forward to seeing you.
