Boxing Day Traditions

Happy Boxing Day! (And no, it’s not about family squabbles* 😉)

In the UK, 26th December has a long history of gift-giving—originally called Boxing Day because servants received Christmas boxes of money or goods as thanks for their hard work.

Today, Boxing Day’s all about family fun and traditions. Some people head out to catch a sports game—a tradition that’s been around for centuries.

Others hit the shops for the Boxing Day sales, while many snuggle up* on the sofa at home with leftovers* and a Christmas film marathon.

For us here in the Burgmer family, it’s another day of family time, board games (perhaps a round of Wizard or The Settlers of Catan), a winter walk—and more good food 🤦‍♀️.

How are you going to spend Boxing Day?

*squabble – Streit
*snuggle up – sich einkuscheln
*leftovers – Essensreste
