Just checking in…

Welcome to this week’s Sparks Plus.
Short reflections and examples to help you speak up, respond
and disagree in English without putting extra pressure on yourself.

Six short sections.
Easy to read.
Designed to reduce effort, not add more.

1️⃣ Quick Win

When you haven’t had a reply, you don’t need to chase or apologise.

A very safe line is:
Just checking in.

You can also say:
Just checking in to see if you had a chance to look at this.

Neutral. Professional. Widely used.

2️⃣ Real-World English in Action

A client wrote: I’m still waiting for your answer.

In English, that can sound impatient.
Try instead:
Just checking whether you’ve had a chance to look at this.
Let me know if you need anything from me.

Same situation. Softer tone.

3️⃣ Christine’s Pick

News Words (VOA Learning English)

Short videos that explain one key word from the news — slowly, clearly and with examples.

Good if you want to:

  • follow real topics without overload
  • build vocabulary in context
  • train your ear without pressure

You don’t need to watch every episode. One is enough.

4️⃣ Reader Question

Q: Is “I’m reminding you” OK in an email?

A: It’s grammatically correct, but it can sound strong.
Better options are:
Just a quick reminder…
I just wanted to follow up on…

Small change. Big difference.

5️⃣ AI Prompt to Test

Try this in ChatGPT:

“Rewrite this follow-up email in calm, friendly Global English. Keep it short and professional. Give me one version only.”

Paste a real email.
Less choice = less effort.
