Starting Again: It’s Never Too Late
Read today: You don’t get muscles by going to the gym every now and then.
It’s the same with life and careers—if you’ve taken time out to raise a family, you might feel like the path back to work is unclear, or maybe even impossible.
I understand that feeling—because I’ve been there too.
When I had four children in three years (with twins thrown in for good measure!), I had no choice but to stay at home.
My husband worked to support us, and there wasn’t any family nearby to help out. Back then, in Germany, women who went back to work after starting a family were sometimes called “Rabenmutter” (raven mother) as if it was unnatural or selfish to choose anything other than full-time motherhood.
But honestly, I loved being at home. I was no longer working in a job I didn’t love (translating for a company that built atomic power stations!). And I found joy in being there for my children.
I didn’t just look after the house and garden—I got creative. I started making glass objects and window pictures, which even brought in a little pocket money.
But when my first two children left for university, something inside me told me it was time for a change.
I’ll be honest with you—it wasn’t all planned out. I had no idea what my next step would be, but I knew I wanted to start my own business. I just didn’t know what kind of business. And then, by chance, I met Michael, who needed help with his English. And that was the start of my big adventure.
So, if you’re sitting at home thinking, “Is it too late for me to change?“—let me tell you, it’s not. Life’s adventures don’t follow a set timeline. Sometimes they come when you least expect it. Even small steps can lead to big changes. Don’t let the pause you’ve taken to focus on family hold you back from starting something new.
Your next chapter is waiting.
