The silent ‘b’

speak no more

The ‘b’ in the following words are silent, which means that you don’t pronounce them:

climb (klettern)
comb (Kamm)
debt (Schuld/Schulden)
doubt (Zweifel)
numb (taub)
thumb (Daumen)

Here’s a great list of words with ‘silent’ letters. Just click on the loudspeaker icon to listen to the pronunciation. My pronunciation just sounds a bit different because I come from England! 😉
