Memorising numbers

I’m sure we could all improve our memories. We just need to train them more!
A happy occasion?
In Germany, “runde Geburtstage” are special. They are those birthdays that end with a “zero” – like 30, 40, 50, 60 etc. Leo.org calls them “big birthdays” or “significant birthdays”. I’ve also heard the term “milestone birthdays” before. But not in England, strangely enough.
I quite like to call them “important” or “special birthdays”. But then I wonder, aren’t all birthdays important and special?
In German, we even have a verb for these birthdays. It’s “nullen” which literally means “to zero”. Thanks, Deutsche Welle, for reminding me.
A new business idea?
I’ve just read about a holiday decorating service and wonder if any of my readers have their homes or businesses decorated by someone else. I like decorating the home myself, so I couldn’t imagine anyone else decorating for me. But perhaps there are people who don’t have the time or energy.
According to thebalance.com, one can offer such a service not only at Christmas but also on other occasions. But is there really a market for this?
Merry Xmas
You’ve probably seen the word “Xmas” before. It’s quite a common abbreviation of the word Christmas. It’s considered to be informal and should, therefore, only be used in headlines or in greeting cards. I would never use it in a formal piece of writing.
