Idea’s or ideas?

In a workshop I held not long ago, a participant wrote the following on the flip chart: “Idea’s about new projects”. All he really wanted to do was to form the plural of the word ‘idea’. He should have just added an ‘s’ without the apostrophe.

If you’d like to know when to use the apostrophe, take a look at this excellent article (link to: Purdue OWL).

The businessmen and their sandwiches

Two businessmen went into pub at lunchtime and ordered a couple of drinks. They then took sandwiches out of their briefcases and began to eat.

Seeing this, the angry publican approached them and said, “I’m really sorry, but you can’t eat your own sandwiches in here. That is definitely not allowed!”

The two looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders and exchanged sandwiches.
