A nativity play tells the story of Jesus Christ’s birth and is often performed by children before Christmas for parents and friends. I remember being Angel Gabriel when I was in primary school and bringing the good news to Mary. Our play was a bit like the one I found here on YouTube.
Displaying a nativity scene (also known as a manger scene, or crib) is a loved Christmas tradition. Sets – often made of wood or porcelain – have a stable with star, Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus in a manger, some shepherds with lambs, the Three Wise Men and one or two farm animals. If you don’t have a set, you might like to buy one on etsy.com.

There are a lot of people who believe Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without mince pies. Quite honestly, I don’t like them. But I know a lot of people who do. So if you want to make them yourself, take a look at this recipe I found on the BBC website.
Now I do like the tradition of hanging up mistletoe at Christmas and kissing under it! But I read that there is a proper etiquette that needs to be observed. The man is only allowed to kiss a woman or girl on the cheek. And when he does this, he has to remove a berry from the mistletoe sprig. The kissing ends when all the berries are gone!
You probably know this, but I thought I’d remind you … “Merry Christmas” is the greeting that is traditionally used on or before Christmas.

When I was young, we used to travel up to London every year just to see the Christmas lights. And, of course, nowadays the lights in the streets and shop windows are even more spectacular than they were years and years ago!
Don’t you think the lights in Regent Street look great here (link to: www.timeout.com)?

The Three Kings, or Three Wise Men (Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar) were, according to the Gospel of Matthew, a small group of men who travelled thousands of miles to visit Jesus after his birth, bringing him the three symbolic gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

“Jingle bells” is probably one of the best-known and commonly sung Christmas songs in the world. I’m sure you know it. It starts like this:
“Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way”
A jingle bell is a type of bell which produces a ‘jingle’ sound (see photo above). They are often used in Christmas decorations or as Christmas ornaments.

The ivy is an evergreen climber often used in Christmas wreaths and other decorations.
Why not make your own Victorian ivy ribbons (link to: www.bbc.co.uk)? You can use them as room decorations or wrap them around the branches of your Christmas tree! Or make your own Victorian wreath (link to: www.bbc.co.uk).
