Did you know?

Did you know?

Underground
How can you start a conversation with a colleague or customer in English? Of course, you can always talk about the weather and other safe topics. But what about starting with a surprising fact? Something like: “Did you know that the London Underground is the world’s oldest underground railway?” (It was 150 years old last year!)

Creativity

Okay, varnishing your nails like this might not be a good idea when you’ve been invited to a job interview (but perhaps it depends on the job you’re looking for!). And not every Personnel Manager is impressed by a creative CV/résumé. However, Robby Leonardi, a New York-based designer, seems to have been successful with his Super Mario-inspired CV.

Now that’s creativity at its best. I’m not surprised that he found a job. Are you?

Broom

A young man, hired by a supermarket, reported for his first day of work. The manager greeted him with a warm handshake and a smile, gave him a broom and said, “Your first job will be to sweep out the store.”

“But I’m a college graduate,” the young man replied indignantly.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know that,” said the manager. “Here, give me the broom, I’ll show you how.”

It’s nothing new that college graduates often have to accept jobs that don’t make full use of their education – especially in the beginning of their careers …

Exercise equipment

I think we would all like to be “sharper, smarter, and far more focused”, wouldn’t we? If these brain exercises from ‘Kwik Learning’ can help, then let’s give them a try.

They remind me of the exercises I’m learning at the moment with my Lifekinetik trainer here in Germany. They’re helping my brain to function better and, in the future, will be helping my workshop participants, too! 😉
