Emails Causing Deadline Confusion?

Ever had this happen?

One small mix-up in an email… and suddenly there’s confusion about the deadline.

It happens a lot with ‘until’ and ‘by‘.
Especially if you think in German first.

The classic mistake: “Please send it until Friday” — when you actually mean by Friday.

Here’s the difference:

By Friday = the task must be finished no later than Friday.
Until Friday = it continues up to Friday, then stops.

So:

“The report must be finished by Friday” = deadline
“I’ll work until Friday” = last working day is Friday

If it’s about a deadline, ‘by’ is your best friend.

If it’s about how long something lasts, ‘until’ is your word.

💬 Be honest — which one slips into your emails more often?
