Refreshing family traditions feels as satisfying as reorganising your space

Ever noticed some traditions feel bigger than they really are?

My mum’s Christmas dinner was like that.

Brussels sprouts arrived even if no one touched them. Turkey was always the star. Christmas pudding was the law. And my mum spent hours in the kitchen making it all happen.

For a long time, I thought, “This is what Christmas must look like.

Here’s the small aha.

Traditions are not rules. They’re habits we can update.

These days, we do Christmas our way. No turkey. No Christmas pudding. We keep what matters and drop what doesn’t. And the pressure to copy the past is gone.

That shift feels freeing.

You don’t have to repeat what came before you. Even at Christmas dinner. Keep what serves you. Change what doesn’t.

Is there a Christmas food tradition you’ve changed over the years?
