A buzzword is a word or a phrase that normally sounds important and that people use to impress others. Jargon is the specialised language used by people in the same work or profession. They can drive you mad!
Don’t try and impress your readers with these words. Communicate clearly. Use words you know your reader will understand.

I often hear the phrase ‘in former times’ used as a translation of the German word ‘früher’. Actually, we English speakers don’t use this phrase.
I would suggest you use the phrase ‘used to’.
“I used to live in Hamburg but now I live near Cologne.”
“She used to play netball when she was younger.”
