Stop Saying „Mio.“ in English Reports
You’re presenting your quarterly report to international colleagues. Everything’s going smoothly, and then you say, “We made 2 Mio. in revenue this quarter.”
Confused looks around the room… „Mio.„? Is that millions? Billions? Wait… what?
“Mio.” is not the correct abbreviation for million in English—that’s strictly a German thing. In English, the only correct abbreviation is “m”. So, next time you’re talking big numbers, make sure to say „2m“ (two million), not „2 Mio.„!
It might seem small, but using the wrong abbreviation can cause confusion, especially in global business. You don’t want anyone second-guessing your numbers, right?
So remember: Million = m. It’s simple, clear, and the right way to make sure your data shines without distractions.
So now go and impress your listeners.
