3 English Proverbs You Might Hear at Work
Not because you should use them, but because you’ll probably hear them.
📌 “Actions speak louder than words.”
👉 What you do matters more than what you say.
(Think leadership talks, feedback, teamwork.)
📌 “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
👉 Don’t make decisions based on appearances.
(Used for people, products or ideas.)
📌 “The early bird catches the worm.”
👉 Start early, succeed more often.
(Still popular in productivity chats.)
You don’t need to sprinkle proverbs into your English.
But knowing them means you won’t get lost when others do.
💬 Which English proverb have you heard most often?

Hi Christine,
Two of my favourite proverbs are:
“Put your money where your mouth is” and “Having champagne ideas on beer money”
I am also interested in whether you know the continuation of “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover”, which is ” but you can tell the … price”?
Hi Kurt,
The first proverb is a well-known one. But, I’ve never heard, “Having champagne ideas on beer money”. But I love it. Wanting luxury while having a limited income. Nice!
And no, I didn’t know the continuation of that last proverb (a good cover doesn’t guarantee good content). But it’s great.
Thank you for posting here. I love reading your thoughts.
The pleasure was all mine… 😉
