How is a Sunday roast like small talk?

Someone asks “How was your weekend?” and you start looking for something interesting to say.

In Britain, Sunday often meant lamb with mint sauce for us. (I liked the mint sauce so much I ate it without the lamb.) Nobody at the table wanted a new recipe. The same meal every week was the nice part. Your ‘Sonntagsbraten’ is probably similar.

Small talk is the Sunday roast of conversation. People like it because they know what’s coming. A friendly start is all anyone wants.

So the ordinary answer is enough. A walk, a quiet evening. That’s plenty.

Quick win: Keep one easy reply ready. “Quiet, thanks. And yours?” Then the other person talks, and you can relax.

💬 What’s your go-to answer on a Monday morning?
