Sparks of English
“He is in the home office” reads as fine English. It just doesn’t mean what you think it means. In German, “Home Office” describes the whole activity of sitting at your kitchen table in slippers with your laptop open. In English, “home office” is a room.
Aus: Denglisch detox: “home office” doesn’t mean what you think → ganzen Spark lesen

The word that cancels every sentence before it
You said "but". Everyone in the room stopped listening to what had come before. "That's a good idea, but..." The compliment is gone the moment "but"...
Stop comparing your English to theirs
There's always someone in the meeting whose English sounds smoother than yours. You hear them speak and immediately start judging yourself. But...
“We can’t meet the deadline” (and then what?)
"We can't meet the deadline." Five words, and the meeting is already over. Nobody asks what comes next, because "can't" doesn't leave room for a...
7/4 or 4/7? Depends who’s reading
You wrote 7/4/2026. Your American colleague read that as the 4th of July. You meant the 7th of April. Same numbers, same date, two different days on...
