Just two letters. A completely different meaning.

„He works hard.“
He’s putting in a lot of effort.

„He hardly works.“
He does very little work!

💡 Quick tip:
Hard = with a lot of effort.
Hardly = almost not.

Be careful. Adding -ly doesn’t always turn an adjective into an adverb with the same meaning.
