How To Use Positive Language To Inspire and Motivate

How To Use Positive Language To Inspire and Motivate

How To Use Positive Language To Inspire and Motivate

Have you ever noticed how a simple shift in language can completely change the way you feel?

Instead of saying “I can’t” saying “I can” can transform a situation from one of helplessness to one of possibility.

Let’s have a look how we can bring more positivity into our lives!

Words we might like to be careful with Positive words
I don’t know (I’m not willing or able to help you further.) I’ll see if I can find out (I’m willing to take action and try to help.)
I’ll try (Can sound as if you’re not sure if you can do something, or that you’re not fully committed to doing it.) I can (you’re confident that you can accomplish the task and that you’re fully committed to doing it.)
You must (Can sound like you’re giving a command or an order.) If you can (You’re giving the other person a choice and allowing them to make their own decision.)
You should (Can sound like you’re giving a command or an order.) You could try (You’re giving the other person a suggestion or an option.)
You have to (can sound like you’re giving a command or an order) May I suggest that (You’re offering a suggestion or an option.)

We know using positive language can help build stronger relationships, foster more productive conversations, and create a more positive environment.

It’s worth practising, don’t you think?

Of course, you know these words in German. But how can you translate them into English?

You can’t. They’re untranslatable.

Let’s take a closer look

  1. Schadenfreude: This is a word used to describe the feeling of pleasure derived from someone else’s misfortune. It is a compound of the words ‘Schaden’ meaning harm, and ‘Freude’ meaning joy.
  2. Zeitgeist: This word is used to describe the mood or spirit of a certain time or time period in history. It is a combination of the words ‘Zeit’ meaning time and ‘Geist’ meaning spirit.
  3. Kummerspeck: This word is used to describe the excess weight gained from emotional overeating. It is a compound of the words ‘Kummer’ meaning sorrow or grief, and ‘Speck’ meaning fat.
  4. Fremdschämen: This word is used to describe the feeling of embarrassment or shame on behalf of someone else’s actions. It is a combination of the words ‘Fremd’ meaning foreign or other, and ‘Schämen’ meaning to feel ashamed.

I thought this might help you to explain these words to a speaker of English.

Who knows, they may even come in handy in your next conversation!

Beyond the Paycheck: Finding Purpose in Your Work

You’ll do your best work on behalf of an audience and a cause that deserves it, appreciates it and applauds it. If it’s just a job, you’ve sacrificed your best energy for a paycheck.
Seth Godin

Are you sacrificing your best energy for a paycheck?

Or are you passionate about what you are doing and believe in the cause you are working for?

After having taken my A-levels and spent two years at a technical college in England, I started my career in Hamburg as a Personal Assistant.

But I didn’t feel like it was the right fit for me.

I later transitioned into translation but still didn’t feel fulfilled.

It wasn’t until I discovered English language coaching for business professionals many years later that I found my true calling. (I even did a master’s degree to further develop my skills and knowledge in the field.)

Helping others improve their English skills and gain confidence in their communication abilities brings me a sense of fulfillment and purpose that I never knew was possible.

It’s amazing to see my clients grow and thrive in their careers as a result of our work together.

I’m grateful to have found work that aligns with my passions and values.

Have you found your calling?

If not, what steps can you take to move closer to your ideal career?
