How Often Do You Feel You’re Wasting Your Time on Social Media?

Do you ever feel like your posts go unnoticed, as if nobody’s even giving them a quick look?

I certainly do.

So, how can you stay positive despite this?

It’s easy to assume that nobody’s listening, watching or even bothering to click that “like” button.

But don’t let this quiet phase fool you!

There are plenty of silent spectators (also known as ‘lurkers’) out there.

Just because your posts aren’t getting a visible thumbs-up doesn’t mean they’re not making an impact.

The real magic happens when someone

  • joins your group or coaching sessions, telling you they’ve been silently following you for years, or
  • responds and shares how your post has made a difference or touched their life.

Keep going, keep shining—and don’t let that silence dull your sparkle!

As long as you’re enjoying the journey!

3 Tips to Boost Your Business English Vocabulary

We all know that having a strong vocabulary is essential for effective communication.

Here are three practical tips to help you expand your business English vocabulary:

  1. Read Business English Materials: Dive into business-related books, articles, newspapers or websites. As you read, pay attention to how words are used and the situations they describe. This will not only introduce you to new words but also help you understand their meaning within the business world.
  2. Watch Business English Videos: If you’re more of a visual and auditory learner, explore YouTube channels and online platforms that offer business English videos. Listening to professionals speak in various business contexts will improve your listening skills and expose you to correct pronunciation and intonation.
  3. Use Flashcards or Memory Aids: Flashcards are a classic and effective way to memorise new vocabulary. Create them with the English word on one side and its German translation on the other. Review them regularly to reinforce your memory.

Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Neither is your word empire.

    Good luck! smile

Discovering Retronyms: Making Sense of Changing Language

Have you ever noticed that sometimes we need new words to describe things that have been around for a while?

This is where retronyms come in.

They’re like special words we use to tell the difference between something old and something new.

Back when I was young, my mother would cook in the oven. The word “oven” was enough to describe it.

But as time went on, things got fancier in the kitchen.

We now have microwaves, convection ovens and conventional ovens.

So, we had to come up with new words to explain which kind of oven we meant.

    And think about telephones.

Way back, when we had only one type of phone at home, we just called it a “telephone.”

But then mobile phones and wireless phones showed up.

Suddenly, the old telephone needed a new name— “landline“—to distinguish it from the newer phones.

These examples showcase how retronyms are born out of necessity.

They bridge the gap between the original and the new, helping us avoid confusion in a rapidly changing world

So, next time you hear a retronym, remember it’s a cool way language keeps up with all the amazing changes in our lives!

    Understanding Others’ Fears

    Understanding Others’ Fears

When in doubt, look for fear. When someone acts in a surprising way, we can begin to understand by wondering what they might be afraid of.
    Seth Godin

When we don’t understand why someone is behaving in a certain way, we can often find the answer by looking at their fears.

For example, some people avoid social gatherings because they are afraid of being judged or embarrassed. They may be worried about making small talk or dancing poorly.

Others are hesitant to share their ideas because they are afraid of being criticised or ridiculed. They may think that their ideas are not good enough or that they will be rejected.

Still others avoid conflict at all costs because they’re afraid of arguments or disagreements. They may worry that things will get out of hand or that they will say the wrong thing.

And finally, some people are afraid to try new things because they are afraid of failure or disappointment. They may prefer to play it safe and stay within their comfort zone.

We need to remember that everyone has fears.

Our quirks and fears are what make us who we are.

However, it is also important to face our fears, as doing so can be rewarding and lead to personal growth.

Just like finding a banknote in our old jeans, facing our fears can be unexpectedly fantastic! laughing
